4 From I to U terms
- International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme (IGGP)
- The UNESCO's flagship program with a mandate to support research and capacity in Earth Sciences. It has two pillars , the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) and the UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGp). The IGGP is implemented through two co-operative ventures with the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and the Global Geoparks Network.

- National Geopark Committee/Forum
- In some countries it is responsible for coordinating Geoparks at national level and the submission of candidates for UNESCO Global Geopark designation.
- Transnational UGGp
- UNESCO Global Geopark crossing national borders and connecting the peoples with their landscapes and heritage of different countries. Such an example is the Slovak and Hungarian crossborder Novohrad-Nógrád UGGp

- UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp)
- It is a single, unified geographical area where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.
